It\u2019s fancy autocomplete. Chain-of-thought prompting (like showing your work in math class) <em>helps<\/em> \u2014 until it doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, <a href=\"https:\/\/ml-site.cdn-apple.com\/papers\/the-illusion-of-thinking.pdf\">Apple found that when tasks got harder,<\/a> the AI actually started using <em>less<\/em> reasoning. Like a student who panics mid-exam and starts guessing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is what Apple called &#8220;complete accuracy collapse.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Translation: <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/apple-research-ai-reasoning-models-collapse-logic-puzzles\">AI doesn&#8217;t know it&#8217;s wrong. It just acts like it does.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that\u2019s the danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> So What Do We Do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The takeaway isn&#8217;t &#8220;AI is useless.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s: <strong>Stop worshipping the illusion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Better benchmarks (that actually test reasoning, not memorization)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Systems that <em>know when they don&#8217;t know<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hybrid models that mix language prediction with real logic engines<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And most importantly, we need humility. From engineers. From startups. From governments.
