A lonesome late-night drive is the subject of this Single Sentence Animation from Nathan Englander’s “The Reader.”

“And with all those headlights floating divided in his rearview mirror, Author never can tell which belong to his reader, which pair is his beacon, a North Star, split, cast back, guiding him on.”

Single Sentence Animations are creative collaborations. The writer selects a favorite sentence from his or her work and the animator creates a short film in response.Created by Drew Christie for electricliterature

The Avantgarde Diaries’ is a worldwide festival-tour, curated by Raf Simons for Mercedes Benz, where design, art, music, film and fashion merge in an avantgarde way. So after visiting the event there were some things I liked and some things I did not like!

What I liked is how Mercedes Benz handled its digital conversations… other brands should follow their lead! What they did was to invite all the blogging elite from fashion, design, music, art, trends etc! They flew in people from around the world and they created an excellent experience for all the bloggers in order to create positive word of mouth! From the moment you arrived in the airport a black Mercedes limo was waiting for you to drive you  to a  very arty and beautiful hotel! The event itself was exceptional, the building, the drinks the music everything was perfect! They made sure that all the bloggers will write something good about the event

What I did not like though is that Raf Simons did not made any effort to find some time in his program to speak to the bloggers.I thought that this was unacceptable from him!

Moreover I felt that this whole project was more about him and not about Mercedes Benz and their new car Concept A class! So for me I think that since Mercedes paid for the event they should have kept Raf Simons on a shorter leash cause at the end of the day  in my mind Mercedes Benz is a bigger brand than he is!

To be honest I do not have a clue about fashion or who Raf Simons is maybe he is avant garde but honestly I was expecting a bit more from Mercedes Benz!To me the whole thing was a bit superficial as the fashion industry tends to be! I would have expected a social cause behind this event for example supporting and endorsing the new avant garde artists that are young talented and poor and not some that they are already famous! Usually  those young people are the ones that they do the most experimental and innovative, work, not the established ones!

Plus Mercedes its all about innovation, avant garde is in their dna but I did not get this or any relevant info from their new concept car at the event! I mean nobody told me what new technology it uses, what it does, what is their new innovation etc . I would also prefer to have a closer and a more physical experience with the car, even to drive it, but the car itself was an art installation that you could not get very close! The installation was stunning but then again it surrounded the whole car with smoke…. it was very arty but it was smoke! So at one point after watching it I was wondering the bad connotations that this might create to some people with all the smoke coming from cars and the damage that they do to the environment.

I loved the effort of Mercedes Benz but for me all brands should create something a bit more meaningful these days! Something that adds and creates an extra value to the society that they operate… but then again maybe Im not the fashion orientated target audience they want to impress.Still though I would like to see something with a bit more substance. As a vimeo user comments “A beautifully made film about one man’s struggle to preserve his home, his art and retain his creativity of dignity”

This is a wonderful documentary by Devin Schiro about Alan Kimble “Kim” Fahey who has spent more than twenty years working, mostly single-handedly, to turn his Acton, California property into the wonderland of habitable sculpture he has named “Phonehenge West.”

Hundreds of people have visited the property and admired the wonderful invention and solid construction of Kim’s buildings…even the unfinished segments are beautiful. Now the County of Los Angeles has declared its intent to condemn not only his work, but the man himself to a jail term longer than those handed out for some violent crimes against actual victims. Milton Glaser is an iconic graphic designer! You probably know him for the I Love New York logo, his “Bob Dylan” poster, the “DC bullet” logo used by DC Comics from 1977 to 2005, and the “Brooklyn Brewery” logo! In this short film by C. Coy Milton Glaser just draws and lectures! If you are a graphic designer you must definitely check this out …a genius at work!
