A pet is only “family” until leaving becomes inconvenient.

That’s the brutal truth exposed by stories now coming out of Dubai, where rescue groups say abandoned animals are rising as people flee the current crisis. Shelters are overwhelmed. Volunteers are stepping in. The animals are paying the price.

What destroys me is not only the abandonment.
It’s the waiting after.

The dog that still expects your car.
The cat that still turns at every sound.
The life that trusted you completely and got left behind in the moment you were most supposed to protect it.

A lot of people like the language of love.
Far fewer accept the burden of it.
